Social Work Training Scholarship |
| The Scholarship |
| The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the National Council of Social Service (NCSS) are introducing a training scholarship for the study of social work. The scholarship is intended to provide a window into social work as a profession in the social service sector and the professional opportunities that abound in the sector. We would also like to see the building of bonds between students and their future employers through the scholarship so that both parties are well adjusted to one another for a fruitful working relationship. |

| Number of Awards |
| At least 10 scholarships will be awarded annually. |
| Eligibility |
We seek students who have a strong passion in working with people and are interested to pursue a career in the community and social service sector. The scholarship is open to NUS undergraduates in the 2nd, 3rd or Honours year of study and who have declared Social Work as their major subject. Short-listed candidates will be interviewed by potential employers prior to being approved by the VCF Scholarship Panel for award of scholarships. Candidates are required to have a minimum CAP and SJAP in Social Work of 3.0 each at the time of application to be eligible to apply for the scholarship. |
| Tenure |
The scholarship is tenable up to two academic years but may be extended, though not beyond three academic years. Third-year extensions are granted by the Scholarship Panel on a limited basis for strong academic reasons and subject to support of future employers that scholars had been matched with. The bond duration is proportional to the number of years of funding support received by the students as part of the scholarship. For example, if a student is supported for one year of study, then the bond will only be for a period of one year. |
