| Public Consultation on Singapore's Draft Periodic Report on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child |
The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is a comprehensive charter on the rights of children, setting minimum standards that governments should meet in providing healthcare, education, legal and social services in their countries. Singapore has been a signatory to the UNCRC since October 1995 and submitted its Initial Report in 2002. As State Party to the convention, it is obligated to provide periodic updates on key developments promoting and protecting the rights of children.
|
Singapore is currently preparing the Periodic Report to be submitted to the Committee on the Rights of the Child. On 2 July, a consultation forum was held with more than 250 people, including educators, students, social service and medical professionals, policymakers and other volunteers working with children to discuss Singapore's progress in children's welfare and development, as well as the draft Periodic Report.
